The Firestones
The Firestones**: A pair of cool granite boulders that remind me of the Saddle Boulders, but not quite as cool. Still worth
checking out though they are a little tricky to find. This boulder will probably be more popular with the hard pullers as it has a
lot of hard stuff.
1. V?
2. **V4 Tricky strong overhung problem.
2a. V8? Ring of Fire a long cool looking traverse.
3. *V3/4 Another overhung problem with a good start.
4. **V4 Fun overhung lowball.
5. V? Crimpy hard looking lowball.
6. **V1 The only warm up around.
7. V? There's something here.
8. V? A short slab that doesn't look very hard.
9. ***!V4 Cool scary high face.
10. V? A hard looking problem.
11. V? A tricky looking dihedral.
12. V11? Big Monster I think. Stellar looking problem.
13. V? Tricky looking face.
14. V? Even harder looking face,
15. V? another something here.
Approach: Park at the boulders
Ambiance: * When I was their the dogs and I had the
place to ourselves, I remember it being nice, but hot.
Parking: A car or two
Kids/Dogs: The dogs were free to roam, I don't
remember much there for kids, but I haven't been there
since I had them so I wasn't really looking.
Shade: Minimal
Rock Type: Granite-Quality
Notes: Warm and strong.
Directions: From I80 take Exit 158 (Emigrant Gap) and
head left (east) on Laing Road. It turns into a dirt road
that parallels the highway and follow a gas line (I think
there are signs for something underground there I don't
remember exactly what). If you don't want some Nevada
pin striping you might want to walk in before the brush
gets narrow. Stay straight until the road switchbacks up
the hill and you will see the boulders at the switchback.
